Lighting Tips

Pendants:
Pendants can provide a variety of lighting types that lend themselves well with the following applications: kitchen counters, game tables, work areas, and special locations around the home. Pendent lighting is ideal for a festive or intimate touch in home recreational spaces. These fixtures should hang 30” above the counter top.

Halls and Foyers:
With the taller ceiling design trends of today, foyers and great rooms may require a larger fixture. These fixtures not only welcome your guests, but make a statement about your home. Chain-hung or close-to-ceiling fixtures are often ideal for hallways, entranceways, and stairwells.

Wall Mounted Fixtures:
Larger rooms and open floor plans have increased the utility and popularity of sconces and other wall mounted fixtures. They are often designed to coordinate with other dominant lighting fixtures throughout the home. Mount wall sconces 62” to 72” above the floor.

Flush Mounts:
These fixtures are popular for lighting hallways, stairwells, kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, and playrooms. They are very versatile and many styles are available.

Outdoor:
These fixtures not only meet and greet your guests, they make a statement about your home and provide “curb appeal”. Make certain they are sized correctly and in proportion to your entranceway. They should be 66” above ground level.

Bath Fixtures:
As the bath has become the focus in many homes, the desire for more substantial bath lighting fixtures has grown. Smaller mirrors can be accented with side fixtures, which should be 60” above floor height. For larger vanity and mirror applications, it may be attractive to select a single, larger fixture.
